How long does AI implementation take for a small business?
Most first AI systems for a small business go live in four to eight weeks from the initial discovery call. That includes about a week to schedule the call, one to two weeks between call and build start, and the build itself. Complex systems can take longer, but the well-scoped first project rarely needs more than two months.
The realistic timeline, week by week
Week 1: The discovery call
You book a call. It usually happens within a week of booking. On the call, we look at how your business actually runs and identify the two or three systems worth handing over first. You leave the call with that list either way.
Weeks 2–3: Scoping and start
If you decide to work together, you pick which one of the two or three to start with. We agree the scope and fixed price. The build starts within one to two weeks of that decision.
Weeks 3–7: Building
The actual build takes anywhere from two to five weeks depending on complexity. A simple speed-to-lead system is on the shorter end. A follow-up sequence with multiple channels and personalisation logic sits in the middle. A custom AI agent handling complex workflows takes longer.
Week 5–8: Live
The system goes live. You see results in your own numbers, not in projections.
Why it's this fast (compared to enterprise AI)
Enterprise AI projects run six months to a year because they involve extensive customization to legacy systems, security reviews, cross-functional stakeholders, and change management. A small business's first AI system typically avoids all of that: you pick one clear job, we build it against modern tools, one person on your side signs off, and it ships.
What can extend the timeline
Waiting on decisions from your side is the most common delay factor. An unclear "yes we want to move on this" adds days or weeks. Complex integrations with unusual or legacy tools also add time. So does trying to boil the ocean on a first project instead of scoping it tight.
